Getting Crafty

February 26, 2014

Katie-Pie's Disney-riffic Third Birthday Celebration.  Yeah, I did lots of crafts for it.  It's what I do.  For those who know me, you know that I start working on her party at Halloween.  This time, I had to start over three times before we just went with Disney.  She invited the Princesses, the Fairies, Mater and Lightining McQueen, Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy, Doc McStuffins, Sofia, and well, you name it, she wanted them there.  Here's where we ended:

Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes.  With double-sided cupcake toppers

5 of 6 different styles of invitations.  There are three that came up missing and I simply cannot find them.

As you can see, my Cricut and I have a great relationship.  Unfortunately, I think that he may be on his last legs....pray for him.  I have so much more to do....room decorations, household decor, stocking and Etsy store.....you get the picture!

So, at some point in time, I decided to get crafty.  It all started because of my Vanilla Sister, 'Chelle (visit her over at http://chellesspace.blogspot.com, she's amazingly awesome!)

It was all innocent enough....just a little scrapbooking....take some pictures and actually do something with them....something other than let them sit forever on my hard drive, or worse yet....the SD card, never to be seen again.

What started out as, "I'm just going to do a couple of things here and there," has turned into tons and tons of scrapbook paper, special pens, stickers, archival safe adhesives, a Cricut, a Cuttlebug, rotary cutter and special blades....you get the picture.

When that wasn't enough, I had a baby.  And since I can't really justify spending butt-loads of money decorating a room for an occupant who is mainly going to be sleeping with me anyway, I took the more cost effective route and used scrapbooking stuff that I had to create a little haven for my little slice of Heaven.

For her first decorating scheme, I chose Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Gang.  I found a coloring book, got some map pencils and 12" x 12" scrapbook frames and went to town.  Each frame was purchased, on sale, so eight of them only cost roughly $60.  And when I think that it's time to change, I already have the frames.

I'll have to post pictures of the Charlie Brown stuff later (it's been removed and scrapbooked), but when she turned about 18 months old, I changed to Sesame Street.....it was her new obsession, Elmo and all.  Now, I'll tell you that I didn't remove all of the Peanuts stuff.  Now, her room is a mix of Peanuts, The Wizard of Oz and Sesame Street.  It IS tastefully done, though, so don't worry!

Did I mention some random Hello Kitty?  I borrowed a HK Cricut cartridge from my other sister, Adrienne and had a little fun with it.
Bert, Ernie and Rubber Ducky

The Peanuts blanket was a gift from my great aunt for Munchkin's baby shower.  She is awesome and made it herself!

Super Grover 2.0 and Big Bird

Cookie Monster and Elmo

Zoe and Abby Cadabby
Let me tell you, hubby is probably pretty happy that I haven't gone overboard buying decorations for Munchkin's room.....'cause let me tell you, there's tons of cute stuff out there.  If I think that I can make it, then I'm certainly going to try before spending the money on it.

July 16-17, 2013

We made cats using toilet paper rolls.  A quick tour of the internet, and I found a cute little template here: http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/mcat2.htm to go with our letter of the day.  I printed out two templates and we got to work.  I let KP color her own cat, while I let her choose the colors for mine.

Can you tell which one is mine and which one is hers?

Then, I cut the pieces out:

Applied a little Elmer's

and Voila!!

Here's my little artist at work:

And a little break for "Mickey Mouse Road Rally"

And there you go!  We had fun.  And no toddlers were allowed to use scissors during this project.  So, find a craft project and go have some fun with your little ones today!  You'll both be happier for the experience!

So, it is no secret that I LOVE my Cricut.  Even if he's giving me issues right about now, I still love him.  I finally had the chance to do some work on new room decorations for Tots and Toots.  Here's the first part of the new stuff.  This will go on Toots' side of the room.  Her theme (for now) is Winnie the Pooh.

All of these images were cut with the Pooh Font Set.  And even though Eeyore and I almost came to blows, he's still pretty cute.

I've also made Toots' name using the cartridge with the Honey Pot creative function, but because the letters are so big, they won't fit on the scanner.  I will post a picture once it's all hung up.  I have a little more work to do (adding ribbons to the letters and such), but all in all, I think that it's going to turn out in the end.
